Christmas in California

I really was going to blog this earlier, but just haven't been able to find the time until this morning. Busy, busy, busy...

This was the warmest Christmas I can ever remember. In SoCal we never (well, hardly ever) get a "white" Christmas, but this was just ridiculous. It was 85 by noon, though the house (being of the sturdy variety built in days gone by) never got any warmer than about 78. 78 is where we keep our air conditionining set. We opened up every door and window just to catch the breeze and air the house out and we all put on shorts and t-shirts! It felt like summer, definately not winter!

That's getting ready to change of course; as we speak a whole series of Pacific storms are stacking up west of us and they're saying it may rain on the Rose Parade for the first time in 65 years.

We always spend way too much on Christmas, but this year we may never recover. It just seems like everything the kids needed (or just wanted) was big ticket items - computers, routers, firewall, table saw, nail gun, compressor.... And that was just for me!

Seriously we, had a really good time - even though the kids are way beyond the point where any of them believe in Santa Claus; Christina still humors her dad, but she's gotten really good at dropping little hints like, "Dad do you think that Santa will bring me a Solid-Gold Barbie?" Or whatever it is she wants. And do you know what? That jolly old elf manages to deliver as advertised. I worry about her when she gets older.
